A Sunny Autumnal Morning in Bibury

September 25, 2020

Have you ever dreamt of visiting somewhere for so long that you worry when you actually arrive it might not live up to your expectations?

I wondered if this would be the case with Arlington Row, but I was mistaken!

Arlington Row in Bibury is possibly one of the most iconic spots in the Cotswolds. A Grade-1 listed row of 14th century cottages and owned by the National Trust, it’s like a scene from a fairy tale.

Bibury Cotswolds

For my thirtieth birthday, my boyfriend Ade whisked me away to stay in the Cotswolds for a week and Bibury was definitely one of the villages we wanted to see with our own eyes. We’d spotted it the day before when we visited the nearby pub for afternoon tea, but as it was mid-afternoon there were a lot of people around and we felt that we didn’t want to add to the crowds.

So we woke up early the following morning to have a stroll around the neighbourhood while everyone else was still in bed. We were rewarded with a beautiful scene: the sun was rising behind the cottages, giving the Cotswold stone its famous honey-coloured glow.

We wandered around admiring the rose-framed cottages, selecting which ones we’d most like to live in and imagining what the lives were like of the people inside!

After exploring every nook and cranny of Bibury, we headed back to our B&B for a delicious cooked breakfast to set us up for the rest of the day’s adventures.
